Welcome to Marshall’s Spicy Travel Blog
Present: As a Sophomore college student double majoring in English and Spanish, there are some general education requirements that I need to fulfill. One of these requirements is a digital intensive course which CPSC 106 or Digital Storytelling just happens to meet. A digital intensive class that has “storytelling” in the name is perfect for my love of creative writing and literature within the English discipline, whereas the opportunity to travel to a Spanish-speaking country is perfect for practicing the Spanish discipline. I love to travel and I am super excited to be taking part in a course that not only teaches me the importance of technology, but also reflects my interests outside of the digital world. This blog is a reflection of my journey with technology and my adventures in Chile.
Future: I am a huge lover of nature and one of the things I am most excited for in Chile is the natural beauty. I know Easter Island will be especially pleasurable to the nature-lover in me. When I think of myself in nature, I am taken to a zen state of mind; an internal sound characterized by crystal waters and soft chimes. For this reason, Spa Music is the sound that I hope will be the outline for my trip abroad in Chilean nature. Spas try to bring the outside in when picking their music, so I pick this music to flip the narrative: to bring the spa to nature when I am traveling Easter Island and Santiago.
Past: My high school was a Governor’s school specializing in government and international studies. Therefore, I had the opportunity to study abroad many times and travel all over the world. One of my favorite destinations was London. During my senior year, I took a seminar specializing in the history of London. There were about ten of us in the class, so each of us covered a niche topic that could be studied in regard to the evolutionary history of the English city. The topic I chose was, the evolution of hygiene and sanitation in London. One of my favorite projects was from the period in which we were studying London’s renaissance. Because Queen Elizabeth I reigned supreme during that time, I recreated her signature makeup look and presented it to the class. This video is a look into my past endeavors as a student.
