So I flew to Santiago because I thought it’d be cool to “find myself.” Day one: I found myself… eating three empanadas and crying in the Plaza de Armas because I mistook a mime for a statue and tried to give him a high five. He just stared at me. Judged me. In silence. Like my high school gym teacher.

Later, I decided to ride the funicular up San Cristóbal Hill. Majestic view, right? I got stuck halfway up because I dropped my phone, screamed, and somehow yanked the emergency brake. Whole tram froze. People looked at me like I was a confused goat, which, to be fair, is exactly how I looked.
Desperate to redeem myself, I joined a street dance circle. Thought I crushed it… until I realized I was actually just spinning in a tight circle beside a trash can while the real dancers were 20 feet away.
Moral of the story: Santiago is beautiful, the people are patient, and maybe I should never leave the house without a chaperone.
