Four Seasons in Santiago, Chile

When I arrived in Santiago, Chile, it was the end of summer. The days were warm, and the city was full of life—people enjoying the last weeks of sunshine, vendors selling mote con huesillo, and the towering Andes standing clear against the blue sky. The heat lingered into the evenings, making the parks and plazas perfect places to sit and watch the city move. But soon, autumn arrived, painting the trees in shades of red and orange, and a crisp breeze filled the air. The streets became quieter, and the scent of roasted chestnuts and wood smoke signaled the change of seasons.

Winter in Santiago brought cold mornings and snow-covered mountains. People bundled up in scarves and coats, hurrying through the streets, while cafés filled with the warmth of steaming cups of tea. Rain would sometimes wash over the city, leaving the air fresh and clear, making the view of the Andes more striking than ever. Then, little by little, spring returned. The jacaranda trees bloomed with vibrant purple flowers, and markets filled with fresh fruit. The sun warmed the streets again, and Santiago felt alive with music, outdoor dining, and the excitement of a new season.

After experiencing a full year in Santiago, I realized how much the city changed with each season. The rhythm of life shifted, from the carefree days of summer to the quiet of winter and the renewal of spring. Each season brought something new, and by the time summer returned, I saw Santiago in a different way—not just as a place, but as a city that moved with the heartbeat of nature.
