Story Map of Easter Island
With eager anticipation, I reluctantly pack the night before my departure to Easter Island, my mind racing with excitement despite my worries about forgetting something important. At the airport, I meet my equally eager classmates, and after a quick layover in New York, I board the long flight to Chile. As I land in Santiago, the golden sunlight revives my travel-worn body, and after another short flight, I finally arrive at Easter Island. The sight of the island’s lush greenery and tropical beauty fills me with exhilaration as I check into Tupa Hotel, ready to immerse myself in its rich history.
My journey begins at the Anthropological Museum, where I learn about the island’s fascinating past and the significance of the towering Moai statues. Eager to explore, I hike a popular trail and visit historic sites like Ahu Vaihu, the Akahanga complex, and Rano Raraku, where hundreds of Moai stand frozen in time. I marvel at Ahu Tongariki’s 15 restored Moais before continuing to the mystical “Navel of Fire.” Touring Rano Kau, I take in breathtaking views of the volcanic plateau against the endless blue of the Pacific Ocean. At Ahu Akivi, I stand in awe before the Moai, their silent presence commanding respect. One unforgettable night, I go stargazing, the island’s unpolluted sky unveiling a dazzling display of constellations that stretch infinitely above me.
